Google Search Wiki and Google Profile – VERY COOL Apps!
I’ve been playing around with a couple of Google features over the last few days and I can hardly contain my excitement – Google Search Wiki and Google Profiles.
Just when you thought Google couldn’t give us any better tools, they turned a simple search into an interactive wiki, leading straight to your personal profile (if you’ve created one) …and subsequently, any URLs you’ve included.
How cool is that..?!
Sometimes it’s better to show by example so follow along while I walk you through a simple search…
1) Open a new tab and search Google for “google profile.” If the SERPs remain consistent, the first listing will be the same one I’m using in this example.
2) Use the small bubble icon at the end of the green link to leave a comment regarding this site.
(You might be able to see my comment in this screen shot – that’s because I snipped it while logged into my profile. When you leave a comment, you will see your info there instead.
3) When you click on the icon, a text box will open up for you to leave your comments. (You can always delete it later if you feel lead.)
4a) Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see who else is leaving comments on the site you have highlighted.
A new page will load with the results of every SERP that people have created anecdotal notes for, including your own.
Just for kicks, you can even vote your own page up using the greyed-out check mark (changes to green when hovered over). Refresh your page and watch your comment move up the page.
4b) You can even add your own URL to this list of SERPs by clicking on the link, “Add a result” at the bottom of the page.
Once this post was published, I went back and added it here.
Hang on, it gets even better…
If you’ve created a Google Profile, anything that you contribute to Google’s new Wiki feature will link to your profile … and whatever links you’ve added to it! Think of the potential backlinks!
If you haven’t already, go ahead and create your Google profile. You can view my Google profile here.

google’s search wiki is an awesome tool but the comments shouldn’ be made public
Manish’s last blog post..Mozilla Based Songbird
I have to disagree about the comments. After all, it’s part of the appeal of knowing what value pages hold for others …and influences which ones I might visit, or pass by entirely.
BTW, I liked your heads up about Mozilla’s Songbird – sounds like something I’ll have to look at!
